Veterans Day events

Veterans Day parades are coming to Colorado cities including Denver, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction, which will honor World War II veterans this year.

In Lakewood, Old 121 Brewhouse will offer the first beer for free to veterans with their military ID from Saturday through Monday. They also will release the 5th edition of the Pride and Patriotism amber, a collaboration with a veterans’ organization, and host a Saturday afternoon party with a heated cigar lounge, live music and a food truck.

In Colorado Springs, the Veterans Day 5K fun run starts at 10 a.m. at Goat Patch Brewing.

Boulder Jewish Film Festival

The 12th Boulder Jewish Film Festival opens Sunday at the Dairy Arts Center. The official festival opener is “A Real Pain,” a Jesse Eisenberg film that was a surprise hit at the Sundance Film Festival. The festival closes on Sunday, Nov. 17, with “Seven Blessings,” a family dramedy that won 10 Israeli Academy Awards.

Comedy in Lone Tree

Lone Tree Brewing Company hosts a comedy showcase at 8 p.m. Saturday. The emcee is Terri Barton Gregg, and the headliner is Nora Lynch, a veteran TV comedy writer and star of a Colorado PBS comedy series.

Tickets cost $15, and the show is 21+.

The brewery also hosts a holiday market and food drive on Saturday afternoon. More than 20 local makers will offer holiday gifts. Bring at least two non-perishable food items and be entered to win one of dozens of door prizes.

Holiday markets

Speaking of makers’ markets, you can start checking boxes on that holiday shopping list at events all over the state:

  • The Freedom Institute, which provides a safe place for addiction recovery, organized a craft fair on Saturday in downtown Grand Junction, with crafts, food and live music.

  • The Center for the Arts and the Trailhead Children’s Museum in Crested Butte co-host a makers market on Friday evening and all day Saturday, with 20 local makers and their handmade products.

  • For some more quirky options, Rocky Mountain Punk hosts a nature art and oddities market on Saturday afternoon in Lakewood. Options include jewelry, ceramics, leatherwork, soaps, taxidermy and more.

  • Finally, if you’re looking for the perfect item for a vinyl aficionado, the Durango Record Show returns to the La Plata Fairgrounds on Saturday.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. If they don’t fit in the Get Out of Town column, we will add them to our events calendar.
