Six westside breweries to gather at 6 and 40
Thirst staff report
Most business gatherings don’t generate much interest outside their industry. But most business gatherings don’t include signature flights and free commemorative glassware.
Lakewood’s newest beermaker, 6 and 40 Brewery, will host the third Lakewood Brewery Collective event on Saturday, Aug. 21. The event also will include beers from:
• Great Frontier Brewing Company
• Green Mountain Beer Company
• LandLocked Ales
• Old 121 Brewhouse
• and WestFax Brewing Company.
Each business will have at least two beers on tap, and a signature flight will be sold, with a beer from each brewery. The first 70 drinkers to buy a pint can take home a commemorative glass. The event also includes food trucks and yard games.
“We’re excited to join 6 and 40 Brewery for the Lakewood Brewery Collective. It’s a day to celebrate Lakewood craft beer with friends and colleagues,” said LandLocked Ales Owner Nick Stafford. “We’re especially looking forward to joining craft beer enthusiasts from all over the city to share a pint.”
Josh Morrison, taproom manager for 6 and 40, said Lakewood breweries support each other and work together regularly.
“We all enjoy each other's company and love each other's beer that we all work hard to create and serve,” he said. “We are always supportive of each other, but the Lakewood Brewery Collective is our chance to involve the community at large in our camaraderie and show just how strong and committed Lakewood breweries are to our amazing craft and community.”
The event also comes just before the one-year anniversary of 6 and 40’s gutsy pandemic opening in September 2020.
“We’re thrilled to carry on the tradition of an annual gathering of Lakewood breweries,” says 6 and 40 bartender José Quiñones. “Our theme this year is, ‘We Made It!’ reflecting the fact that Lakewood breweries not only survived last year, but gained another member with the opening of 6 and 40 Brewery.”
Tom Schurmann left an automotive career about 10 years ago to open Tom’s Brew Shop, then he and his wife expanded the business into a brewery and taproom next to his homebrewing supply store. The new brewery calls itself “your Colorado craft beer filling station,” reflecting the 20 beers and seltzers on tap, and the vintage car theme.
"Opening 6 and 40 Brewery was a perfect compliment to Tom's Brew Shop,” he said. “The shop has been serving Lakewood and surrounding communities for close to a decade but there were few choices in the area for top quality craft beer. Knowing that Lakewood and the craft beer community would support a new local brewery, the choice was easy, even during a pandemic"
The first Lakewood Brewery Collective event was in 2018 at Westfax Brewing Company. Lakewood breweries also regularly collaborate on beers.
