Connect with your food through hyperlocal initiatives in Boulder and beyond.

By Elsa Russell

The idea of hyperlocal meals, or dishes created using mostly locally sourced ingredients, is gaining traction among conscientious foodies. Locally sourced food is not only healthy and sustainable, but also delicious, fresh, and often excitingly unpredictable. Support your food community with these four hyperlocal initiatives. As always, check websites to confirm hours of operations.

NUDE FOODS MARKET

Spice up your cooking and discover new snacks with Nude Foods Market, a locally sourced zero waste food delivery service available to those in the Boulder area. Customers can choose from three curated subscription options: the Produce Box, the Pantry Staples Box and the Local Bites Box. Boxes are delivered weekly on bicycle and arrive at your doorstep in reusable mason jars and containers that are picked up for reuse the following week. Each subscription includes a weekly email detailing recipes that can be made using the contents of your most recent delivery. Subscription boxes are also available for pickup for those living outside of Boulder.

BOUNDLESS LANDSCAPES

Boundless Landscapes is a new initiative that is turning lawns and unused community spaces into sustainable food gardens. They aim to make healthy food accessible and affordable while connecting the community to its source. Produce is available for purchase at one of their farm stands every Tuesday and Thursday, and can also be ordered in advance online. A portion of each harvest is also given back to homeowners who host the gardens and donated to local food relief organizations.

LOCAL TABLE TOURS

Explore your local food scene with Local Table Tours’ walking food tours. Tours are hosted in Boulder, Fort Collins and Denver. Themed tours include Boulder Brews, Booze, and Bites and Coffee and Chocolate Tasting in Boulder, Taste of RiNo and Coffee and Donut Tasting in Denver, and Taste of Old Town in Fort Collins. Each tour is different, but all feature a rotating selection of locally owned establishments, including multiple farm-to-table and hyperlocal restaurants. Tasting menus are left up to the chefs and are constantly changing to include ingredients that are fresh and in season, so you are always in for something new and exciting.

BLACK CAT BISTRO and BRAMBLE & HARE

Black Cat Bistro and Bramble & Hare are sister restaurants serving delectable dinners primarily sourced from certified organic Black Cat Farm, which is located just outside of Boulder. Their carefully curated menus change daily to reflect the tastiest and freshest ingredients available. Both restaurants are currently open for farm-to-home takeout dinner and wine. The farm is still in full operation, and produce, recipes, farm stories, and cooking tips are available weekly at the Boulder Farmers Market.
